Storm Water Division

Stormwater is water that falls from the sky as rain, hail, or melting snow and drains into the municipal drain system, such as catch basins or drainage swales that eventually lead to a wetland or body of water, such as a lake, stream, river, or ocean. The Town of Reading helps manage stormwater and keep stormwater clean from pollutants to protect nearby groundwater, wetlands, and river basins through its Stormwater Management Program.

Reading’s Stormwater Management Program

To comply with federal and state regulations, the Town of Reading is implementing a Stormwater Management Program that seeks to:

  • Educate the public about stormwater and stormwater management.
  • Map and inspect its stormwater management infrastructure.
  • Detect and prevent illicit discharges in drainage systems.
  • Control construction site runoff control.
  • Educate the public about housekeeping best practices to prevent stormwater pollution.

All components of the program will ensure clean stormwater in the Town of Reading and a cleaner environment for our future.

Program Report

The purpose of the Stormwater Management Program (SWMP) report is to provide the residents of the Town of Reading a summary of the Town’s efforts to prevent stormwater pollution and a more comprehensive understanding of the Town’s stormwater management.
