  1. Mexican Independence Day

    September 16, 2023, 1:00 AM - September 17, 2023, 1:00 AM

Today is Mexican Independence Day, when Mexicans around the globe celebrate the anniversary of the country’s independence from Spain. The day is marked by a national holiday in Mexico, a reenactment of a historic moment from the revolution’s leader, and an array of performances from fireworks to dance routines. Often confused with Cinco de Mayo by people living in the United States, Mexico’s independence day actually marks the moment in 1810 when Miguel Hidalgo y Costilla, a Catholic priest known as Father Hidalgo, made the first cry for independence.

  2. Rosh Hashanah / Jewish New Year

    September 16, 2023, 1:00 AM - September 17, 2023, 1:00 AM

Today is Rosh Hashanah/Jewish New Year. Rosh Hashanah, the Jewish New Year, is one of Judaism’s holiest days. Meaning “head of the year” or “first of the year,” the festival begins on the first day of Tishrei, the seventh month of the Hebrew calendar, which falls during September or October. Rosh Hashanah commemorates the creation of the world and marks the beginning of the Days of Awe, a 10-day period of introspection and repentance that culminates in the Yom Kippur holiday, also known as the Day of Atonement. Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur are the two “High Holy Days” in the Jewish religion.

  3. Constitution / Citizenship Day

    September 17, 2023, 1:00 AM - September 18, 2023, 1:00 AM

Today is Constitution/Citizenship Day. This day commemorates the September 17, 1787 signing of the United States Constitution. The day encourages Federal, State, and local officials, as well as leaders of civic, social, and educational organizations, to conduct ceremonies and programs that bring together community members to reflect on the importance of active citizenship, recognize the enduring strength of our Constitution, and reaffirm our commitment to the rights and obligations of citizenship in this great Nation.

  4. Rosh Hashanah / Jewish New Year

    September 17, 2023, 1:00 AM - September 18, 2023, 1:00 AM

Rosh Hashanah/Jewish New Year ends today at sunset. Rosh Hashanah, the Jewish New Year, is one of Judaism’s holiest days.
