Fire Prevention Responsibilities

The Fire Prevention Officer is responsible to ensure all life safety systems for new construction and renovations are designed and installed properly per the Building Code (780 CMR).  Code compliance is a collaborative effort with the building department. This requires pre-construction meetings, plan review, code research, and continual site visits to ensure proper installation. 

For existing buildings, the Fire Prevention Officer is responsible to ensure all life safety systems are maintained properly per Massachusetts Fire Code (527 CMR 1.00).

Other areas of responsibility include:

  •  Flammable and combustible product storage.
  • Hot work
  • Firework displays
