Gas Leak Audit
Please be advised that the Town of Reading has hired Gas Safety Inc. to perform a Town Wide Gas Audit. To date Phase 1 has been completed and Phase 2 is under way.
Phase 1
Gas Safety Inc will conduct a Cavity Ringdown Spectrometer (CRDS) Survey of all public roadways within the Town of Reading, Massachusetts and prepare a report that will estimate the costs to investigate each fugitive methane emission detected by the CRDS survey. The town of Reading will receive all CRDS data files that can be plotted on GIS software such as Google Earth and a report outlining the expected costs to document each leak detected within the town.
Phase 2
Upon receipt of a written notice to proceed with Phase 2 services from the Town, GSI will document all gas leaks within the Town of Reading that will produce a leak report for each leak detected that includes leak classification (for safety), leak migration area, leak extent in square feet and any trees or other vegetation that are within the leak migration area. Industry reported December 31, 2019 leak data has been plotted by HEETMA.ORG on google maps that indicates 120 active leaks in town. The GSI Phase 1 CRDS survey will give an accurate estimate of the total amount of unreported gas leaks. GSI will add the 120 known reported gas to the CRDS discovered leaks to give an estimate of total costs to the Town of Reading to investigate and document all gas leaks within the Town of Reading. GSI will investigate all known NGRID reported gas leaks as of December 31, 2019, and all gas leak locations as indicated by the CRDS survey.
